From inventory to intelligence: deploying AI at scale in the network

Most operators are yet to deploy AI at scale in the network, instead focusing initially on services and uses such as chatbots and contact center teams. But that is changing as communications service providers (CSPs) look to introduce the technology into certain domains such as network optimization and fault management.

Holding them back from being bolder in their implementation are factors such as AI-related “incidents”; deployment in legacy systems; processes such as governance and compliance; and data quality or availability. But some CSPs are already addressing such obstacles.

Digital twins – replications of physical network systems that CSPs can use for testing – are increasingly becoming a key component of strategies to deploy network automation and autonomy. They are being augmented by unified data models and inventories – delivering a single model of the entire network and service environment spanning all domains and technologies.
